O Farmnews Indica

Farmnews compared beef cattle price data in the US with that in Brazil between January 2020 and June 2025.

The price of beef cattle in the US reached a record high in 2025 (first figure) and, despite being the highest level in history, remains well above than in Brazil.

In addition to the record price of animals ready for slaughter in the US, the value reached a level almost three times higher than the average price in Brazil (second figure), according to data from Cepea.

In June 2025, the average of bee cattle price (Cepea) valued in US dollars was US$56.5 per arroba (30kg of live weight), 38.2% higher than in June 2024 (US$40.9 per arroba). In this context, it is also important to highlight the appreciation of the Brazilian real against the US dollar. This is because the exchange rate of R$5.55 in June was the lowest since September 2024.

Figure shows the average nominal price of cattle in the US (Choice 60-85), in dollars per arroba – 30kg of live weight, between January 2020 and June 2025.

With the US herd at its lowest level in history, the price of beef cattle in the country continues to reach new highs. This shows that, in addition to increased demand from the US for Brazilian beef, the global livestock market is under upward pressure. The two main global producers, the US and Brazil, with a decrease in the female herd and, consequently, in the total cattle herd, and prices under upward pressure!
